Church Times Blog: Bishops talk about Windsor Continuation Group’s proposals

Posted by Kendall Harmon

The Bishop of Alabama, the Rt Revd Henry Parsley, described the Continuation Group’s suggestion of a pastoral forum or “holding bay” for disaffected groups within the Communion, as “interesting”.

“My sense is it would bring people together face to face to talk about these things, I think that will be a tremendous step forward so we’re not sending communiqués across the ocean, so we don’t really talk about things in person.

“Secondly I think it’s all about forgiveness, we’ve all heard each other in some ways and we need to move forward and heal.

“I’ve great hope for this Communion, I spoke in the hearing on the third session on the Continuation Group’s proposals, and spoke of the formula truth plus forgiveness equals reconciliation, and that’s true and is Christ’s message. Not that it’s easy but I’ve hope.”

Bishop Parsley is seen by some in TEC as a conservative even though he has treated reasserters poorly in his diocese.  If he only finds this interesting, then there is little to no hope for what is being proposed.  It is amazing that he has hope for the Communion when he cannot be honest of the situation on the ground.

Parsley threatened clergy merely for joining the American Anglican Council.  And now he talks nice.  Sickening.

Parsley is no “conservative.”  And I am not sure at all that he would permit disaffected in Alabama to enter the “holding bay.”

And of course that’s the problem with the “holding bay” idea.  It would only work if it overides TEC’s precious polity, which it won’t permit.  So we are back at square one.

TEC and CoC need to be in the “holding bay.”

This was found wanting by the HOB in NO.  In fact it engendered the famous flag-waving, apple pie bombast that lacked motherhood due to the ECUSA/TEC/GCC/EO-PAC’s support of abortion by Executive Council fiat.

Might sound interesting but will NEVER amount to more than DEPO or the Panel of Reference or Forum proposal.

Truth plus forgiveness equals reconciliation! Where can one better this sheer nonsense? The truth is that scripture openly condemns homosexual acts. Will we (and God too,  since He is in here somewhere) forgive what scripture tells us is an abomination? And will we be reconciled as a result? This is bumper-sticker thought-substitute, brainless, facile, cheply clever, superficial…..  Woe unto us. LM
