Thanks KSH et al.  It was a great game, very close.  Was delighted that young Sidney Crosby got the winning goal.  He’ll rank up there in our hockey pantheon along with Paul Henderson.

Seeing these hockey updates posted on your blog is yet one more indication of your good taste Kendall!

And yes, we Canadians do take our hockey very seriously!  I grew up in Vancouver and lived there until about 15 years ago when I moved to the USA and became a US citizen 7 years ago.  I have even become quite disillusioned with the soft liberal authoritarianist direction my former homeland has drifted in over the last 40 years.  But I couldn’t help rooting for Canada in the Olympics and hoisting the Maple Leaf on our garage flag pole!

OK, OK, give Canada its due, but as a Detroit Red Wing fan, why did it have to be that annoying, classless Crosby who scored the winning goal? Remember it was Crosby who declined to line up and shake hands with the Red Wings after the Stanley Cup victory last year. Still a little bitter, as you can see. But yes, Canada played well and deserved to win. Now I’m going to rinse that taste out of my mouth.

Could not have been scripted to be a better game. Just like 1960 and 1980. [From a California native who was almost born in Vancouver.]

Congratulations, Canada.  And I mean to buy one their uniforms.  VAST improvement over what they used to wear.

Congratulations, indeed, to our Canadian brethren.

Something else I noted in every event the Canadians won- they sing their national anthem.  Nobody stands in stony faced silence.  Nobody waits for somebody to walk up to a mic and sing it for them.  Kinda like the Star Spangled Banner when I was a kid and we all knew the words.
A lesson in that for a lot of churches I’ve attended lately.  The hymnal is in the pew for a reason.  Make a joyful noise, you know, like Canadians after a hockey victory.
