Holy Father urges end to war, education of youth in Congo

Addressing the the new ambassador to the Holy See from the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday, Pope Benedict called for an end to war in the country. He also took the opportunity to invite national reconciliation, especially through the education of children.

Thank you for posting this Kendall. I hear very little discussion about military service and Christian discipleship. There seems to be an assumption that there is no contradiction between following Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and participation in the military. It is also interesting that Pope Benedict links his comments about war with a concern for the welfare of children.
