Welcome to the new Site

Posted by Kendall Harmon

As you have noticed, because of traffic, the server on the old site simply became unable to handle the blog reliably so we had to move. My intention in the short term is to move the new material here but to keep all the old posts at the old site for research, review, etc.

Comments will follow the same policy here as before (see especially: here), with this difference: in order to comment here you are going to need to use a real email address. As I have said many times I prefer that you do NOT use anonymity for commenting, but if there are strong reasons for you do to so for now that option is still open.

I am sure there will be bumps along the road, and I appreciate your patience and understanding.

--------

The elves second Kendall's plea for patience. We are on a VERY steep learning curve with the new software. There are many questions to answer and all sorts of tweaks to make, options and preferences to establish. We'll try to give clear guidance soon about how to register, comment, etc., as soon as it becomes clearer to us as well.

Feel free to leave any questions or suggestions here. You can also e-mail us at: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Comments on posts at the old blog will probably be open all this week. After that it is likely that we'll close all comments there to prevent future spam problems. As far as we know the plan is to keep the old blog online either indefinitely, or until it can be copied over to another site as an archive.

Let me be the first person from the commenting community to say congratualtions!  I hope this site is more stable than the last one!  Given Greg Griffith’s prowess, I trust it will be!

A plea to all our readers.  PLEASE PLEASE be patient with the transition.  We elves hardly even know how to log in to the new site.  There is A LOT of work yet to be done.

We’ll give you all information as we can, but this is a very sudden and abrupt transition and we elves are running to catch up.

We’ll try to monitor our e-mail address throughout the day and the week:

But both elves have been facing some difficult circumstances which has meant that our availability is often inconsistent or limited.  So honestly, your patience is greatly needed.  Thanks for understanding.

Kendall,

If you were particularly fond of the Wordpress system you were using before, the folks at Wordpress host blogs as well.  Completely free and always with the latest version, including an excellent sp*m-killing plug-in that does not require math!  Nothing for you to maintain.  I think you can even import your old blog and comments.  If you are interested in having WP on your own server (although this looks like you are sharing hosting with SF?) it is usually not too difficult to set up or maintain.

SAMH, yes we know about WordPress blogs.  We liked Word Press software.  The free blogs Word Press provides, however do not allow the kind of traffic and bandwidth required by Titusonenine.  We need a commercial hosting service for that.  Thanks anyway.—elfgirl

elf-girl,

I’ve turned moderation off. Comments should appear immediately without requiring the elves’ approval.

IMPORTANT NOTE: if you have previously registered with Stand Firm, you can use that login here (glad that Greg Griffith posted to give me the idea to try that).

Yes, it is possible to login with Stand Firm user names (See Greg G.‘s blog entry above).  We hope, however, that if your Stand Firm username differs from your customary T19 username that you will include your T19 blogname for continuity’s sake and to help folks know who is who, at least for the first week or so.

Example:

Greg Griffith is the best Anglican blog master out there!

Bear in mind when considering archiving options that T19 already is archived by this free service:

I notice various screens use a “Stand Firm” link - should I enumerate these when I encounter them?  For example, the profile pages - index.php/member/profile/ are in a different layout and colour and have “Stand Firm” as the first breadcrumb.

P.S. Let me add that I realize it’s a big job, and I’m offering “extra eyes”, not nit-picking.

I just got a notification email and it claims to come from “contact@standfirminfaith.com” - that could get very, very confusing.

PLEASE, change the banner at the top of the page!  It hurteth mine eyes.  cool smirk

Thank you, Kendall, Greg, and Elves for all of your efforts (whether or not you appease me.)

Feel free to keep noting problems/issues/questions/suggestions here.

Greg had already picked up on the problem of potential confusion with various links and addresses mentioning Stand Firm.  He’ll be working on that.
This is very much a tabula rasa at this point.  The server problems on the old blog had become so difficult that we made the switch more quickly than we might have liked.  So there is a lot for us to yet decide and play with.  That means you all get to offer input & ideas, so fire away.

I second the comment on the banner.  That needs a bit of tweaking, but it can wait. The important thing is to get up and running smoothly. The cosmetics can be fixed later.

Again, welcome Kendall - and elves! - to the StandFirm world! Now let us pray that Kendall’s extra traffic does not overload Greg’s server farm!!

We love the praise, but the actual person to thank for any changes to the banner is almost certainly Greg.  We’ve not had any role in the blog design or setup, though now we are consulting with Kendall et al about various options and settings and possibilities.
