Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, House of Deputies President Bonnie Anderson and Executive Council member Rosalie Simmonds Ballentine have issued a letter to the church calling for study on the Anglican Covenant.

“We strongly urge every congregation in this Church to engage in discussion of the proposed Covenant at some time in the coming two years,” the letter states.

Okay, so they ask people to study the Covenant and comment about it.  So, what then?  Unless they’ve decided to change direction, they won’t vote to adopt it unless it meets with all of their specifications.

Day late and a dollar short.  The covenant is an absolute farce.  As is the AC.  Make your own way and follow Jesus, but don’t expect any support from TEC or the AC.

Given that the GS doesn’t like the Covenant in its current form, it’s hard to see why either reappraisers or reasserters in TEC would have much interest in signing on to the existing draft.

We thank you for participating as we grow more deeply into our common life in the Anglican Communion.

This appears to be the “playing nice in the sandbox” side of TEC’s public face.

I think they are studying how to kill the covenant by indaba, spin, and general obfuscation.

Whose study material will be provided for us to use? I can’t imagine 815 would allow the document to speak for itself.

Why would the Episcopal Church pay any attention to the Covenant, when it does not take a blind bit of notice of the rest of the Communion, the ABC, Primates, ACC, their own Canons, or the Word of God for that matter?

And when they claim to be listening to the Holy Spirit, you know they are up to much mischief.
