(Globe and Mail) Ottawa weighs creating ambassador for religious freedom

The Harper government is looking to attach some heft to an international religious freedom watchdog that it’s installing within the Department of Foreign Affairs.

But it’s still pondering how to build sufficient independence into the DNA of this new Office of Religious Freedom, a promise from the 2011 election campaign.

How about the case of the Christian pastor who was reading Scripture on the steps of his own church during a “Gay Pride” parade?  Men came up onto the church steps and beat him to death.  Not only were the murderers NOT accused of any crime at all, the pastor was posthumously convicted of inciting a riot.  This truly happened exactly as described although such is so hard to imagine.

#1, I live in Canada and I’ve never heard of the incident you mentioned.  Do you have a link (Googling didn’t give any clues)?  I don’t feel persecuted by the way.  I’m not a street preacher, but I’ve stopped and listened to a few and, although they were being mocked, I wouldn’t call it persecution.
