Actually, it’s about the best slate of nominees for a TEC diocesan bishop I’ve seen in many a day. February 3, 8:40 am | [comment link] |

I agree with everyone above, but especially with Evan Miller. It is a very impressive list of strong, orthodox candidates, with lots of proven ability and experience (i.e., they’ve born much fruit). The CP diocese can’t go wrong with several of these outstanding, conservative candidates. However, what immediately struck me was that this roster is dominated not only by white (non-Hispanic) men, but by older men at that.. Five of the seven nominees are age 60 or older. The youngster is Canon Mark Stevenson, who is 47. Fr. Owensby is 54. But all the rest are in their sixties. All that wealth of experience bodes well for the vibrant Diocese of W.La. The widely-respected +Bruce MacPhserson’s shoes will be hard to fill, but several of these guys could be admirable bishops. However, if one of the men in their sixties is elected, it won’t be all that long before the diocese needs to go through another episcopal election. That’s assuming, of course, that whoever is elected would actually be able to secure the necessary consents. But if bishop-elect for Central Florida Greg Brewer is able to get them, as +Dan Martins did in Springfield, I think W. Louisiana will be able to get the bishop they want. I sure hope so. Fr. Handy, do you include Bishop Greg in the same category as the others? As he is an assisting bishop here in North Carolina, I have to admit that I’m a bit suspect. Add in his vote for Gene Robinson when he bishop was of Eastern Oregon . . . I too am curious about the CF ratification. February 4, 3:35 pm | [comment link] |
