Nicholas Knisely on the First full day of General Convention 2009

In terms of the mood of Convention - I have no idea. Things are spinning up so fast I’ve not really had time to have more than briefest of conversations with folks about anything other than the weather. The one thing I’m hearing from folks is that they are recognizing the crisis moment facing the Episcopal Church. (In terms of membership and money.) What I’ve not heard is any coherent response. Hopefully that will emerge.

But I’m not particularly worried. If it doesn’t emerge from General Convention (and I’m not optimisitic), I think is emerging now from the grassroots of the Church.

Oddly enough, I’m not worried either.  There is, after all, ACNA out there offering refuge from the storm.  But where is Knisely going?  What is the “grassroots”  and the “it” that he speaks of?  The liberal interest groups (grassroots) in ECUSA are relying on moderates’ $$ to sustain them.  Does he realize that?

There’s a crisis of membership in ECUSA?  How dare he say so.  Doesn’t he know every church is losing membership, including the Southern Baptist Convention, which means ECUSA should go full-steam ahead with deconstructing Christian faith and morality even faster, because that has nothing to do with the crisis, which we don’t have, anyway?  What a hater and bigot.

I mean, that’s what the Left says to any mainstream Anglican who dares to suggest there’s a membership problem.
