“But our day puts the focus back on people and what we can do for ourselves. We are trying to make a better world on our own by emphasizing good works and good deeds on the day.”

Why would they want to?  What, in whatever worldview they have, would cause them to “want a better world or seek to do good works and deed?”  What constitutes “good” for that matter?

Well, I guess they want a better world so that their own lives can be that much more pleasant. So if it means handing someone a couple of bucks or a sandwich to keep them out of your face, then that’s a “good” thing. Notice, though, that they’re not busting their butts to organize a charitable arm so they can set up soup kitchens or shelters and make a larger impact. They (as a group) don’t care about things like that, apparently.

I also wonder about them always being reactionary. It seems they can only piggyback onto religious events and holidays. Atheism apparently isn’t very creative, original, or proactive.
