“Marching in script Episcopalian?”  Pardon me, but that sounds familiar…....like “marching in lockstep.”

It’s an allusion to the Ohio State marching band, whose signature formation is the “Script Ohio.”  The OSU marching band is one of the most precise in the nation, and the bishops were obviously expressing doubt that the central church offices could be so organized.  I bet all of us who are not resident at 815 would agree.

Bishop Robinson plans to attend in an unofficial manner…

This comment seems a bit disingenuous. It seems equivalent to my saying I haven’t been invited to the oval office, but I’ll be visiting it in an unofficial manner, when I am in fact getting no closer than the Smithsonian, or perhaps a public tour of the White House.

But, Bill Cool….Mr. Robinson will not b there officially but with all the press he will get he might as well be! Make no mistake, Gene Robinson will be some sort of a player in the Lambeth event!

I’m a Wolverine.  This IS one of the best band experiences ever.  Sadly, it doesn’t show “dotting the ‘i’!”

It is too bad Kendall blocked the Robinson entry, for, like Schori, we must ask, “What does he stand to gain?” We know what he stands to lose and we know his presence in any sense will harden divisions. Can this simply be narcissism raised to an institutional level? Is it possible that Schori and VGR, among others, are so locked in their solipsistic universe that they are literally blind to outside consequences? We read bishop-ish bland statements that all is well, and we wonder how it is possible for such obtuseness, how it is to be explained, what purpose it serves. I must say, I am absolutely baffled.  Larry

After reading this report, I sent a polite letter to Bishop Breidenthal in which I said that I found the actions to depose Bishops Cox and Schofield in violation of the Canons and very disappointing.  I urged him (and Bishop Price) to contact the PB and ask her to undo these illegal depositions.  This is the reply I received:

I am sorry you are disappointed in the House of Bishops concurrence with these depositions. Such actions are never to anyone’s liking. But the canons and due process of the church (both of which were followed in these cases, in my view) are themselves one of the ways in which the church strives as a body to ensure fairness and consideration for all.

Thank you for your concern. I hope that you will continue to keep the House of Bishops in your prayers in this difficult time.

Denial works really well for the shepherd of TEC.

Actually it was an email I sent, not a letter.

Dr. Joan, it does so show “dotting the i”. Didn’t you catch the tuba player high-stepping out to do it?

Some like Baby Blue have said the TEC leadership seems to be living in a Humpty Dumpty world, where words mean whatever we want them to mean.

This statement by Bp Breidenthal appears to merge the philosophy of Humpty Dumpty with another information purveyor from the real world:

The Third Reich’s Minister of Information, Goebbels said that if you tell a lie big enough and often enough people believe it. Of course,  Bp Breidenthal is not really telling an untruth, since he inserts as a parenthetical, “in my view”. Perhaps he has himself been convinced that the process was unflawed, in which instance, I would suppose that he is among the duped, not the dupers, for the relevant canons, as discussed here and on other orthodox blogs, appear pretty plainly not to have been followed.

Call me ignorant but, I would think that anyone who is either being looked at for the episcopate as bishop or is one, would at the very least know their own Church’s Canons & Constitutions in order to function as a bishop, especially since they meet every year, what once? twice? One would really expect them to have the required knowledge of the very things that govern the Church in which they themselves are leaders.

There is something very wrong with the fact that so many bishops have been and are operating without complete knowledge and understanding of their own rules!

But, #@15, there is little liklihood that they don’t know the rules, but rather that they ignore them when they are inconvenient. But why? They gain nothing and lose much. Larry
