The Famous Jim Elliot (1927-1956) Quote from his own Diary in his own Hand

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.
Simply amazing to see this--check it out. It was quoted in this morning's sermon by yours truly--KSH.

Thanks for this Kendall.  I’ve long been inspired by these words, since first hearing Elizabeth Elliot speak at Urbana ‘81 and subsequently reading all her books. However, this quote took on an even more powerful and personal meaning 2 1/2 years ago when a close friend was killed for his faith and witness by Islamic extremists.

It is one thing to hear this quote, but another thing entirely to know someone personally who took the words literally and paid the same price.  I was subsequently challenged to re-examine my own heart and life in a profound way and to assess to what extent I was / am prepared to give my life for Christ.  My friend’s martyrdom thus sparked a deep revival in my own heart as I surrendered my own life more fully to the Lord.
