We're keeping this post up top for awhile since it contains important information. Check for newer entries below. Also don't miss what Kendall has written about the new site and his comment policy.
------------
Hi everyone,
We're excited to have the new T1:9 up and running. I wanted to mention that everyone who has an account at Stand Firm is ready to post comments here - just log in using your usual user name and password.
If you don't have an account, click the "Register" link over on the right. Three important reminders:
1. You may register 100% anonymously if you wish, by creating a Yahoo!, HotMail, or similar account, and using that email address when you register here. A confirmation email will be sent to whatever address you provide - that's why it has to be a real address.
2. The confirmation email that gets sent to you sometimes get caught in spam filters, so if you don't receive it within a few minutes of registering, please check your junk mailbox.
3. There is a known problem with AOL users who attempt to register using the web browser AOL includes with their service. If you receive an error message telling you you're not authorized to register, please use another web browser. I recommend downloading Firefox (it's free). Log on to AOL as usual, quit their web browser, then use Firefox to complete your registration.
This is a big change for Kendall, the elves, and me, but I'll be working hard to make the transition as smooth as possible for them, so please be patient!
- Greg Griffith

#1: “We are hoping that commenters can keep using their customary T19 blog names.” Kendall was expressing the hope in the first entry on the new site that people would use their real names unless there is a _strong_ reason to do otherwise. It would be nice to see that thought not dropped so quickly. (Note, for instance, that even Jim Naughton’s blogs are requiring submissions under real names.) Thanks, Greg—looks like it’s working. The old blog would “linkify” your name to a URL you provided. This software seems to keep your URL and other information in your profile, but I don’t see an easy way to get from a user’s comment to their profile—am I missing something? The reason I ask is that I like to build on Kendall’s request to use real identities if possible by providing a link to my personal web page, which contains more than any idly curious person would care to know about me. I’ve put such a link in my signature (I’ll reveal my old Unix roots by noting that I reflexively typed that as “.signature” the first time), but if there’s an easy “comment -> profile -> URL” path I can forego that. ———————————————————————- |

Mike W, re: your #19. We’re all for real names. We did not mean our request for using old T19 blog names to supercede Kendall’s stated preference for real names. What we merely meant to say, is that if you are going to continue using a blog name, it would help if you used the same one you used over on old T19. That way we elves can spot the troublemakers more easily! LOL Ross—It looks like Signatures are now working. I can see your sig. Also, hurray, there is now comment numbering! Very nice. As we’re able, we’ll play around a bit and try to post some pointers or info as to what is possible. We’re still learning though. Hopefully we can stay half a step ahead of the unwashed masses. 23 & 24, re: signatures— In addition to the global enabling of signatures that Greg seems to have done, it looks like there is a per-user option under “Control Panel Home -> Edit Preferences,” called “Display member signatures in entries.” I’m not sure what the default is, but it looks like individual users can elect whether or not they want to see signatures. Maybe Greg has that turned off? ———————————————————————- |

Pageantmaster, the answer to your question re: searches and categories is probably Both/And. We are just learning how to set up categories and have started to enter some key categories. All of today’s posts are now categorized. The categories are not yet showing up in the post or in the sidebar of the blog. They do, however show up when you click on Advanced search. Make sure to choose the weblog “Titusonenine” I.E. “Anglican” is a parent category. One new category we have created which we hope will be particularly helpful is what we’re calling a “Primary Source” category for statements, letters, official reports from Anglican / Episcopal leaders and bodies. Thus you would find Abp. Akinola’s statement in that category. But not a news article about his statement. We want to make it easier to find original statements / letters / communiques / reports, etc. Try out a few searches and let us know what you all think. Got questions about T19? Justin, we are trying to discourage posting of full links as some are too long for the comment window and mess up the formatting (in Internet Explorer, the links truncate in Firefox). Ah Justin, a follow-up. We just saw your comment about Ancient Faith radio and see the problem you encountered. In your case, you can just post the link in your comment text. Thanks, I understand. I’m just pointing out that in the example above, the auto-formatter actually adds “http://” to the “name of link” portion of the formatted URL. So for example, if someone wanted to post a link to an article on Christianity Today’s website, they might put the whole url in square brackets with the url= syntax and put “www.christianitytoday.com” as the name of the link, in which case it would end up formatting it wrong and very long. Regardless, not a big deal and at least I see how it works now, so I won’t make that mistake. Thanks for your help. December 8, 8:01 pm | [comment link] |
