Notable and Quotable

The bishop was on good form at the launch, telling of an amusing encounter with a US immigration official. Looking at the passport in front of him and realising that Tom [Wright] was a bishop, the officer asked him to recite John 3:16. The bishop obliged – in Greek.

Agreed, Ralinda.

It’s not likely, but maybe, if we are very lucky, +N. T. Wright will be appointed to Canterbury after all.  However, even if he were given the post, and even if he accepted the thankless task, it’s far from clear how much difference it would really make.  After all, the decline of biblical Christianity continued in the CoE and global north Anglicanism under ++George Carey.

Still, a delightful anecdote about +Wright.  I wonder how many other bishops could do what he did?

Y’all are missing the point. Why did they pull a bishop and question him? First, TSA headed up by idiots. Second, they simply cannot figure out they need to be looking for terrorists. This incident is a perfect example of how TSA is wasting your money.

True enough, David. However it is a great anecdote about +Wright.

TSA is not responsible for immigration control.  It’s handled by ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.  (Believe me, I know - I recently spent 1-1/2 hours standing in line at US Immigration, watching a video repeat over and over about the ICE)  You can think of it as TSA does the “security” before you get on the plane; ICE does it after you get off the plane and before you are allowed into the USA.
