One could frame it the other way, and call it “distraction rejection”. I’m not convinced that what we’re seeing here is a problem. In fact, looking at the left half of the image in the article, I can tell that my visual processing is editing out the gorilla because the contrast there is too low. I strongly suspect that intellectually ignoring problems stems from entirely different processes.
